Whiskey Run

A quick bike ride along the W&OD to Purcellville for a bite and a nip.

A very hot July 5th. Need to get some activity. Took the W&OD trail from Leesburg to Purcellville, which is the end of the line for the  bike trail and new excursion for me. Started my ride on Route 15 trail crossing just south of Leesburg.

Pretty easy going ride and mostly under the shade following the old railroad. Next time I'll leave earlier. The Vino9 Market has nitro coffee and is just off the trail at Paeonian Springs. You also pass the old Hamilton Station train depot and eventually glide into Purcellville.

A nice lunch at the Market Burger (all local ingredients) and then a visit to the Catoctin Distillery where I had a shot of their Roundstone Rye which evolved into a full flight test including a very tasty and potent cask-proof shot. They have tours at 2pm which doesn't take long. The Distillery is in an old Buick dealership that is nicely designed with exposed brick and wood beams and some interesting decorations.

Popped in some antique stores but did not buy anything, since I'd need to attach it to the bike. I suppose you could buy some things and have them hold it until one returns with suitable transportation.

Returned to Leesburg the same way, but might do more off-trail exploring next time. Ride ended conveniently at Black Walnut Brewery, where Leslie and Wayne picked up the bike and myself and headed back to the B&B and straight into the pool.
